                        Roll with the change

In the 21st century, technological innovation has provided storytellers with the ability to interact with people worldwide through new ways—instead of restricting their work to print media. These are times of adapting to new forms of journalism. Online magazines are a case in point.

The fifth instalment of the Spectator’—IoBM’s prestigious presentation of the ‘Magazine Production Course’—is an amalgamation of ideas from 17 different minds with diverse perspectives, opinions, and creativity, focused on taking their readers on a captivating journey filled with invigorating stories, information, and more.

Spectator 5.0 consists of clutter-free, vivid design and visual content. In an era where people are more focused on social change, we, the 17, have incorporated human-centric stories in this magazine to leave a long-lasting impression on the readers.

In this edition of Spectator, you will come across various readings from free-spoken listicles, distinctive photo essays, to heart-rending and note-worthy feature stories that will hopefully give the readers a meaningful read.

Spectator is the product of months of hard work of three passionate teams: The editorial, design, and marketing teams. Team members were chosen based on merit as well as self-choice of individuals so that everyone’s potentials were diligently utilised. Differences of opinions occurred between the team members, but their sheer professionalism was the driving force that led to the production of 5.0. The course has been designed in a way so as to promote teamwork among students, giving them the feel of an actual magazine's editorial board, and pushing their boundaries by working with different colleagues in rotation. Spectator 5.0 started with individual projects, which led to group projects with team members. Thus, in addition to learning better editorial and technical skills that go into magazine production, we also learnt the invaluable lessons of team work.

Extensive research, on-site photography, one-on-one interviews, and meticulous editing went into producing it. We, the students of the Magazine Production Course, feel pride at the launch of a magazine from scratch, despite various constraints and challenges due to the Covid-19 situation.

This would not have been possible without our instructor and mentor, Farahnaz Zahidi, whose enthusiasm and positivity gave us the push we needed to produce this magazine. She provided a comfortable and safe environment for the students to learn, grow and discover themselves more freely, and made sure that despite the given situation, we never lose motivation and put all of our heart and soul into this magazine.

With that said, we present to you an online magazine where stories speak for themselves.

Enjoy Reading.
